Why a pic of Scott Gomez. There are talks that Bergevin is working on an extension as we speak. |

The NHL has finally started to do so many things right this season, especially working with NBC to have all playoff games aired nationally.
If the NHL does go dark for any amount of time then this sport will once again lose out in a big way.
At the end of the day the fans are the ones that suffer. Players and owners will still be rich while we all get screwed out of watching the sport we love. |

"The Mogilny Rule"
At the start of the 2006 season the New Jersey Devils won a decision to make room for their salary cap by not counting Mogilny's $3.5 million annual salary while he was placed on long term injury reserve. The disputed clause in the NHL Collective Bargaining Agreement has been referred to as the "The Mogilny Rule"

There should not be an amnesty clause put out there for teams to envoke. After all, they were the ones who offered these ridiculous deals. Teams should either find a creative way to trade them or live with them and I'm not talking about sending them on a witness relocation plan to your local AHL affiliate. |

Dear Lord, would we really jettison Bryz over Briere? Briere only has a couple year left - he is the natural "buy-out". And I really like him as a person and a player. But the contract is too big for the production. Really the contract is too big for anyone not 1) playing Goal for a NE team 2) Chara 3) Weber.
Who do you replace Bryz with?
Briere is replaced by Schenn and Coots going 2 and 3 center. And with the cap, we can do a lot of things.
Please let this be true. |

if you had 6 defensemen on the team better than Michalek, do you feel like you should be forced to play him because a Devils fan doesn't like the contract you gave him? or would you rather him be sent to the minors because he isn't good enough? |

What the kings are doing is just amazing and yet the hockey world is talking about banning blocked shots and the cba if they go on and win the cup (hoping they don't beat my rangers) it could be an historic run. |

Whats to stop a very wealthy team from buying out a contract and resigning them to a very cheap one.... say ovi at 3 mill a year? |

because there is a rule against doing that, when the Rangers bought out Holik in the 2005 amnesty, they were prohibited from re-signing him |

If there's a lockout for all 2012-2013 season, what will happened with the 2013 draft order ? a full lottery like the Crosby year ? |

have you looked at Briere's playoff stats compared to all players on your roster? just curious... |

In order for that rule to have any validity, it can't be the full contract paid out. There has to be some formula so it's possible to buy out a contract that's outrageously long. Like, any contract with more than 5 years remaining only gets paid out half the average salary of those 5 years.
The biggest market teams don't seem to be in that much trouble. Rangers have Redden for 2 more years. Toronto has Komaserk for 2 more and not outrageous on the wallet (could easily be stuffed in the minors). Phillie and Vancouver have those huge goalie contracts. They can't pay them out. It's just too much in the hole to do it even in a good market.
I think the NHL is going to hold out for dropping one ENTIRE contract this summer and make a concession with the NHLPA that they can do the same every so often but in the future cases pay out at some scale.
But this summer, it's TOTALLY drop a contract. If not completely free, it'll definitely be cheaper than a full payout. |

potentially nothing. however I fully expect they would put in something that would make such a move illegal. |
